Joanna Kulig has become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Polish actress announced the big news in an Instagram post with a photo of her taking part in a vote regarding this year's Oscar nominees.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is mainly famous for hosting the Academy Awards, commonly and now officially known as the Oscars. It is home to a global membership of more than 10,000 of the most accomplished film industry artists and leaders.
Joanna Kulig announced her membership on her Instagram profile. "I’m very excited to be a fresh member of @theacademy" - she wrote and added a photo of her voting for the 2024 Oscar nominations. The complete list of this year's nominees is to be announced on January 23.
Kulig was one of the 398 artists who received membership invitations from the Academy in June last year, along fellow Poles Agnieszka Smoczyńska, Jolanta Dylewska and Agnieszka Glińska.
"The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang," the Academy said at the time.

The Polish actress gained recognition in Hollywood in 2019, thanks to her role in Paweł Pawlikowski's film "Cold War" - which picked up three Oscar nominations that year. "This is the biggest adventure of my life, both professionally and privately," she told reporters after the 2019 Oscar ceremony.
A few years earlier, in 2013, she had played a singer in Pawlikowski's "Ida" which then won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2015, becoming the first Polish film to do so.
