"We have adopted a regulation, under which we have added companies such as Cyfrowy Polsat, TVN, P4 (the operator of Play network), T-Mobile, and WB Electronics to the list of entities subject to protection," Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk informed during a conference.
The head of the government stated that the Council of Ministers had adopted a draft regulation regarding the list of entities subject to protection and the relevant control authorities.
"We have adopted the regulation I mentioned earlier. This is the list of entities under protection. We are talking about companies that are under protection if someone wants to buy them. This list was already quite extensive. We have added companies such as Cyfrowy Polsat, P4 (Play network operator), TVN, Polsat, T-Mobile, and WB Electronics," Donald Tusk said.
He explained that the list also includes companies that were previously subject to protection.
"I want to emphasize again that we will definitely not make any transactions more difficult. It will require the approval of the Polish government," added the Prime Minister.
He also pointed out that he is aware not everyone may like this, but no one would want media companies, telecom operators, or key energy or defense-related private companies to end up in the hands of the enemies of the Polish state.
The Prime Minister had previously announced the inclusion of TVN and Polsat television on this list.
Regulation on protected entities
The current regulation with the list of such companies expires at the end of this year, making it necessary for the Council of Ministers to adopt a new regulation.
According to the previous list under the regulation from December 29, 2023, 17 companies were included, such as KGHM, Orlen, Tauron, Orange, Polkomtel, Unimot, and Grupa Azoty.
The new regulation is set to come into effect on January 1, 2025, and will remain in force until December 31, 2027.
