The Christmas tree in Kraków's Main Square has been recognized by Time Out magazine as the most beautiful in the world. It surpassed even the famous tree at New York's Rockefeller Center and the one in front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
On Tuesday, Time Out published its ranking of the world's most beautiful Christmas trees. "So, here’s a roundup of the most fantastically glitzy, iconic Christmas trees in the world," the magazine noted, highlighting 11 of them.
The Christmas tree on Kraków's Main Square was deemed the most beautiful and iconic tree in the world. The authors of the ranking called it the "crowning jewel" of the charming Christmas market held in the heart of the city.
They also praised the city itself. "Krakow teems with Christmassy spirit all throughout December, and it helps that the city's streets and architecture look just like the background of a Christmas card."
The second spot in the ranking was awarded to the famous illumination displayed annually by the residents of Umbria on the slopes of Mount Ingino, near the town of Gubbio in central Italy.
Completing the podium was the legendary tree in front of Rockefeller Center in New York.
Fourth place went to the tree in Vilnius' Cathedral Square. Time Out described it as a "lesser-known choice" that nevertheless becomes "one of Lithuania’s major tourist attractions" for a few months each year. The magazine also praised the world's largest floating Christmas tree, which can be admired near the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro.
The ranking also included the Christmas tree in front of the Capitol in Washington, D.C., which, as the magazine notes, has been ceremonially set up since the mid-1960s.
Time Out additionally highlighted Christmas trees located in the central squares of Mexico City and Madrid. The former was praised primarily for its "extravagant lighting and tinsel," while the latter was appreciated for its impressive size.
The ranking also featured the towering, nearly 30-meter-tall Christmas tree in Strasbourg. In 10th place, Time Out included the "always friggin’ beautiful" tree from Trafalgar Square in London.
The list concluded with the tree standing in Moscow's Red Square.
