Poland's coach Adam Nawałka has chosen 23 players that will go to Russia for the World Cup. The squad includes top defender Kamil Glik who suffered a serious shoulder injury during training right before the press conference today. The player was taken to a hospital in Przemyśl. If the injury excludes Glik from the tournament, he will be replaced by Marcin Kamiński.
Coach Adam Nawałka picked his two best goalkeepers, Swansea's Łukasz Fabiański and Juventus' Wojciech Szczęsny, who fight to be in the starting eleven against Senegal. The third keeper selected is Bartosz Białkowski from Ipswich Town.
Shoulder of a giant
One of the world's top full-backs, Kamil Glik suffered a shoulder injury but is still on the list selected for Russia. If AS Monaco player's unjury turns out to be too serious, he will be replaced by Marcin Kamiński who plays for Stuttgart.
The final games of English Premier League turned out to be lucky for Jan Bednarek whose good performance was today awarded by Polish coach. The young defender who joined Southampton last year from Lech Poznań may just be a fine replacement for injured Glik.
Artur Jędrzejczyk and Michał Pazdan are the only two defenders from the Polish Ekstraklasa. Both play for Legia Warszawa which in May has secured the third championship in a row.
Among the defeders selected for the tournament are Łukasz Piszczek from Borussia Dortmund, Thiago Cionek from Serie B side SPAL Ferrara, Bartosz Bereszyński from Sampdoria Genoa.
Kuba and Grosik
Former captain, winger Jakub Błaszczykowski from Wolfsburg is certainly the most experienced player among the midfielders.
Most likely, he will be joined in the starting eleven by Hull City's Kamil Grosicki on the other wing, PSG's Grzegorz Krychowiak currently on loan to West Bromwich Albion and Napoli's playmaker Piotr Zieliński.
The other five midfielders selected by Adam Nawałka are: central midfielder Karol Linetty from Sampdoria Genoa, defensive midfielder Jacek Góralski from Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad, wing-back Maciej Rybus from Russian champions Lokomotiv Moscow, offensive winger Sławomir Peszko from Lechia Gdańsk and Rafał Kurzawa from Górnik Zabrze.
The last one had the most assists in the Polish league this season and most likely will leave Poland this summer.
Top gun
World class striker Robert Lewandowski will wear the captain's armband during the tournament. Bayern Munich's powerful forward is linked with Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea and it seems that he will change side this summer.
Arkadiusz Milik is most likely to play alongside "Lewy" in the attacking formation. Napoli's striker spent most of the season recovering from serious knee injury. However, the last games of the season seem to prove that he is back and his form on the upswing.
Although Sampdoria's forward, Dawid Kownacki is still struggling to become a first eleven regular, he did score a few goals in Serie A. He is also fit to play as an offensive winger.
Anderlecht's Łukasz Teodorczyk made it to the squad despite difficult season in Belgium. His side lost the title to FC Brugge, but the striker managed to score ten league goals.
Poland will play their first game against Senegal on 19 June in Moscow. They will also face Columbia on 24 June in Kazan and Japan on 28 June in Volgograd.
