City of Warsaw - in cooperation with the Institute for Preventing Exclusions - has launched its first helpline for men. The goal of the project is to create a safe space for men, where they could talk about their life, psychological problems or "male matters". Residents of Warsaw, especially of Śródmieście district, can call the helpline at 608 271 402 every Wednesday between 17:00 and 19:00. Psychologists are also on duty every Tuesday from 17:00-19:00, and every Thursday from 19:00-21:00.
A special helpline for men living in Warsaw, especially residents of Śródmieście, has been launched on Wednesday, Śródmieście district city hall informed on August 3. The initiative was made possible thanks to cooperation with the Institute for Preventing Exclusions, which has already launched a help phone for men from all over Poland. As a result, Warsaw now has launched the first hotline exclusively for men seeking help.
Suicides more likely than car accidents
According to the district city hall, twice as many people in Poland commit suicide than die in car accidents, although these statistics are likely to be understated. The data shows that the vast majority of suicides are committed by men. The safe line has been launched in order to create a safe space for men, where they could talk about their life, psychological problems or "male matters".
"Young boys aren't taught to speak about their problems and express emotions, as long-time ago it used to be seen as 'unmanly'. Even nowadays we can often hear that 'boys don't cry'. I'm extremely hopeful that the foundation with which we cooperate as well as the helpline - launched as part of said cooperation - will help to dispel this myth," said Deputy Mayor of Śródmieście district Magdalena Wojciechowska.
"I'm certain that our joint action with the Institute for Preventing Exclusions will create a friendly space for male discussions, and the motto #asking for help is masculine will grow ever stronger," she added.
