On Tuesday afternoon another round of talks between the teachers and the government came to an end. "Unfortunately, the unions rejected the government's offer," said deputy PM Beata Szydło. "We were absolutely sure that the offer would at least correspond with our demands," said the chief of the Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP), Sławomir Broniarz. "The meeting was a waste of time," added Sławomir Wittkowicz, the head of the "Solidarność-Oświata" Free Trade Union.
"I was hoping that we would manage to work out some sort of compromise," said deputy PM Beata Szydło at a press conference. "The government has put forward an offer of agreement, unfortunately, it's been rejected by the unions. The offer still stands and we're still open to reaching an agreement," she added.
"We were absolutely sure that the offer would at least correspond with our demands," said the chief of the Polish Teachers' Union, Sławomir Broniarz after the meeting.
"This offer has been rejected by over 600,000 teachers who are on strike on over 15,000 schools," he said. Broniarz also added that the ZNP and the Trade Unions' Forum "uphold their decision about keeping the strike going".
The head of the Free Trade Union "Solidarność-Oświata", Sławomir Wittkowicz said that "today's meeting was a waste of time".
"The government did not put forward any new offer, only the deal they've struck with "Solidarity" on Sunday," he said. Wittkowicz stressed that there were no indications to even consider suspending the strike.
The head of the Social Dialogue Council, Dorota Gardias said that "both the unions and the employers have put forward new proposals, however, the government has no will and apparently they need more time for to consider what was presented".
