The Ministry of Health informed on Thursday about 32,835 new coronavirus infection cases and death of 315 COVID patients. Since the start of the pandemic Poland has reported a total of 4,406,553 infections and 103,378 deaths.
According to Thursday's Health Ministry report, the highest number of COVID-19 infections was reported in the Masovian Voivodeship - 5,863.
Last week on Thursday, the ministry informed about 16,878 new infections, so today's figure is higher by 15,957 cases, which translates into a 94% increase.
The average number of daily infections calculated based on data from the last 7 days has surpassed 20,000 and is the highest since December 16, 2021.
Compared to Wednesday, the average has increased by 2,280 cases, which is the highest daily increase in this marker since the start of the pandemic. Previous record daily average increase was reported on Wednesday (over 2,000 cases).
Thursday's 32,835 new infections is the highest daily report since April 1, 2021, as well as the fifth-highest daily report since the start of the pandemic. The ministry informed about higher daily reports only four times (on March 25, 26, 31, and April 1, 2021), all of which were recorded in the third wave of the pandemic, so far the highest one.
The ministry also informed on Thursday about the death of 315 COVID-19 patients, of which 237 had pre-existing medical conditions.
The daily COVID-related deaths average calculated based on data from the last 7 days has decreased to 280 and is the lowest since November 22, 2021.
Since the start of the pandemic Poland has reported a total of 4,406,553 infections and 103,378 deaths.
Over 125,000 COVID tests were carried out within the last 24 hours - the highest since the start of the pandemic. Slightly more than a quarter gave positive results (26.25%).
The ministry also said that 1,351 cases of Omicron variant of the coronavirus were registered in the GISAID database, which accounts for 24.5% of all COVID cases sequenced in Poland.
