A total of six Arabian horses were sold at the prestigious Pride of Poland auction in the country’s celebrated stud farm of Janów Podlaski in eastern Poland on Sunday, netting their owners a combined EUR 501,000.
A gray mare named Parmana fetched the auction's highest price, EUR 180,000.
Eleven thoroughbred Arabian mares from stud farms in Janów Podlaski, Michałów and Białka, and one from a private breeder were put up for sale during this year's auction. The event attracted many horse lovers and breeders from Poland and abroad.
Last year, six Arabian horses were sold during the 48th Pride of Poland Arabian horse auction in Janow Podlaski for almost EUR 400,000. Three-year-old gray mare Prunella topped last year's sales, fetching EUR 140,000 for the local stud farm. She was sold to a Czech bidder.
The Pride of Poland has been organised in Janów Podlaski since 1970. The Janów Podlaski stud farm, established in 1817, is the oldest state-owned stud farm in Poland.
