EU's Donald Tusk said EU summit has agreed on next leadership of bloc's institutions. Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said Ursula von der Leyen, German defense minister, has been proposed as the new head of the European Commission.
European leaders have agreed on who should fill the top jobs for its main institutions for the next five years after a marathon summit, European Council President Donald Tusk and Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said on Twitter.

France's Christine Lagarde has been proposed for the presidency of the European Central Bank, Belgium's Charles Michel for European Council president, Germany's Ursula von der Leyen for European Commission president and Spain's Josep Borrell for EU foreign policy chief.
German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen, an ally of Chancellor Angela Merkel, would become head of the European Commission, the EU executive, under the deal reached in Brussels, which must still be endorsed by the European Parliament.
Belgium's liberal caretaker prime minister, Charles Michel, would replace Tusk as the next chairman of EU leaders' summits and be tasked with building compromises between the often fractious 28 member states.

European socialists on Tuesday said they were "deeply disappointed" by the nominees for top European Union posts put forward by leaders at a summit in Brussels.
"This proposal is deeply disappointing for us. Our group has remained firm in the defence of European democracy and the leading candidate or Spitzenkandidat process, and we don't want it to die," Iratxe Garcia, the leader of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D), said in a statement.
"It is unacceptable that populist governments represented in the Council rule out the best candidate only because he has stood up for the rule of law and for our shared European values," she said, referring to Poland, Hungary and Italy.
On Monday, they came close to a deal that would have seen a socialist Dutchman as Commission chief, but it was scotched by eastern countries.
