Denmark's King Frederik X arrived in Warsaw on his first visit abroad as monarch. The Danish monarch at first visited was greeted by President Andrzej Duda. He later visited the Polish parliament where he met with the speaker of the lower chamber Szymon Hołownia.
The new King of Denmark arrived in Warsaw on his first visit abroad as monarch. However, it was not a state trip, but an official business promotional campaign visit.
As tradition in Denmark dictates, the first state visits a new sovereign makes are in neighbouring countries, therefore Frederik X will soon visit Norway and Sweden.
According to the Danish Embassy in Warsaw, the main areas of interest for the business delegation include energy efficiency, climate-friendly agricultural production and biogas.
At first, Frederik paid a visit to the recently opened Polish History Museum where he took part in the opening of a business forum.
The king was then welcomed by Polish President Andrzej Duda at the Presidential Palace.
"We are very proud that His Majesty's first foreign visit is taking place in right here in Poland. To us, it is a sign of the significance which with Denmark attaches to relations with Poland, as well as a sign of friendship," Andrzej Duda said.
Later on, King Frederik laid a wreath at the Polish capital's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Next, the Danish monarch visited the Polish parliament where he met with Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia and one of his deputies, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska.
On Thursday, King Frederik is to watch a signing agreement for a project designed to collect and reuse excess heat from the Warsaw metro by sending it into the city's district heating system.
On Friday, the monarch is scheduled to visit NATO’s regional headquarters in the northwestern city of Szczecin.
King Frederik X took the throne in January, succeeding his mother, Queen Margrethe II, becoming head of state not only in Denmark but also in two former colonies, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, both sovereign territories in the kingdom.
