A 20-century tenement house located at Akademicka 3 Street in Warsaw has just undergone renovation. The building's original façade has been restored and the old "lamb" roughcast removed. The balcony railings, which remember WWII, have also been revamped.
The tenement building at Akademicka 3 in Warsaw used to be the House of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education Clerks. The structure was raised in the 1920s. "Its eclectic form refers to baroque architecture," Warsaw City Hall said in a statement.
The renovation of the exterior elevations began in 2020. The following year, the city refunded 70,000 zlotys for the project and 190,000 in 2022 for the next stage of works.
Traces of war on balcony railings
The elevation facing Supińskiego Street has been revamped by removing the old "lamb" roughcast and replacing it with smoothly distributed lime plaster, just like in the original façade. Furthermore, the elevation has got its original colour back. "Balcony balustrades have also undergone conservation, some of which still bear marks of the World War II fighting," the city hall added.
Parts of courtyard elevations are still to be renovated as well.
