U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski on Wednesday praised Polish people for helping Ukrainians fleeing war. "We are impressed with how the Polish people are stepping up. Poles are showing the world what hospitality means, what gościnność means," he said. "As a Polish-American, I'm proud of them, I'm thankful of them," he added. After meeting with Sejm Speaker Elżbieta Witek, he reassured that "Poland is safe and secure".
U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski on Wednesday met in the Sejm with the chamber's speaker Elżbieta Witek. After the meeting he met with the media. "I had a great meeting with the Marshal (of the Sejm) just right now. I think the most important thing to convey is that Poland is safe, Poland is secure," he said.
He added that "as president Biden said in his State of the Union last night: 'the United States and NATO are prepared to defend every inch of NATO territory,' and that of course includes Poland".
Brzezinski: Poles are showing the world what hospitality means
He also said the world was facing a huge humanitarian catastrophe created by Russia's President Vladimir Putin. "We are impressed with how the Polish people are stepping up. One of my favourite words in Polish language is gościnność - hospitality. Poles are showing the world what hospitality means, what gościnność means," Brzezinski said.
"As a Polish-American, I'm proud of them, I'm thankful of them. I think my late father Zbigniew Brzezinski is looking down, and while crying for the Ukrainian people is smiling at the leaders, the heroes, who are trying to help the Ukrainian people. We're proud of you, we stand with you, and let's see what we can do together," he underscored.
"We have the best synchronicity"
"I have been watching the Polish-American relationship for quite a while, in fact I lived here in Warsaw 30 years ago, so I've seen how it's ebbed and flowed - the American-Polish relationship. And I can report to you that politically, meaning between the Duda administration and the Biden administration, militarily, and in terms of the intelligence collaboration, I have not seen the sychronicity that I see right now between all three sides working together," the U.S. Ambassador to Poland said.
He explained that he had in mind cooperation between the American side, Poland's Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau, and the chief of the National Security Bureau Paweł Soloch. "There is a synchronicity that I can report to you that is the best I've ever seen in a number of months," he stressed.
"And that also goes for the military side. We have up to 10,000 troops now - American soldiers all on Polish bases. I never thought 30 years ago, when I was a Fulbright scholar here, that I would be travelling across Poland in a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter to Rzeszów," Brzezinski said.
"And in terms of the intelligence collaboration, American intelligence has shown that it gets things right. We have anticipated this attack, we shared that with our friends, and we learned a lot from our friends too, including the Poles," he added.
The ambassador also assured that the Americans would be trying to send aid for Ukrainian refugees in Poland. He explained that was the topic of his meeting with the Speaker of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek, at which they also discussed the question of financing of such help.
