Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and First Lady Olena Zelenska are to visit Warsaw for one day on Wednesday, April 5. According to Polish officials, Zelenskiy is to engage in "broad talks" on a variety of topics with Poland's President Andrzej Duda.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is expected to visit Poland on Wednesday, April 5, the Polish president's foreign affairs adviser Marcin Przydacz said on Monday.
"The visit will take place at the invitation of President (Andrzej) Duda. There will be long, broad talks, not only about the security situation, but also about economic and political support", Przydacz told private radio RMF. "It will be an official visit."
According to Przydacz, the talks will also pertain to economic cooperation, historical issues and the policy on historical issues, as well as agricultural matters and the transport of Ukrainian grain through Poland.
He added Zelenskiy would meet Poles and Ukrainians who have taken refuge in Poland on Wednesday at Warsaw's Castle Square.
Chief of President Duda's Office, Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych, told Polish Press Agency (PAP) that Zelenskiy's visit would be "symbolic" and include face-to-face talks between the leaders as well as meeting of delegations.
Ignaczak-Bandych added the invitation had been extended by president Duda.
Zelenskiy last met his Polish counterpart in December 2022 during his trip home from the United States.
Poland is Ukraine's neighbour and the two countries have deep historical ties. Many Ukrainians fled their country after Russia's invasion last year, with a large number seeking safety in Poland.
President Zelenskiy hinted at the possibility of the meeting with Duda in a tweet back on March 27. "Told (him - edit.) about the course of hostilities, the situation in certain areas of the front. Discussed Ukraine's current defense needs & joint diplomatic efforts for the near future. We are preparing for important events," the Ukrainian leader added.
