"Cold War" nominated in three Oscar categories. Paweł Pawlikowski’s film has been nominated for an Academy Award in Best Foreign Language Film category. In recent months, the movie received many prestigious, international awards and gained recognition among critics and the audience.
On Tuesday in Los Angeles, actress Tracee Ellis Ross and actor, director and screenwriter Kumail Nanjiani announced the list of nominees for this year’s Academy Awards - the Oscars.
"Paweł Pawlikowski’s "Cold War" has been nominated in Best Foreign Language Movie category. Pawlikowski himself has a chance for an Oscar for best Director and Łukasz Żal has been nominated for the second time, in Best Cinematography category.
Pawlikowski’s movie scooped most European Film Awards last year. Polish-British-French co-production was named the European Film of the Year in 2018.
Paweł Pawlikowski accepted statuettes in the following categories: European Director of Year and European Screenwriter of the Year. Jarosław Kamiński won the prize for the best editing. Joanna Kulig was chosen the European Actress of the Year for the role of Zula.
In the category of best foreign language movie also nominated are: "Roma" (Mexico), "Capernaum" (Lebanon), "Shoplifters" (Japan), "Never Look Away" (Germany).
Apart from Pawlikowski, also nominated in the best director category are: Spike Lee, Alfonso Cuaron, Yorgos Lanthimos and Adam McKay.
Sam Cuaron received nominations in almost all categories he could have been nominated for: best producer, director, screenplay and cinematography. He only missed nomination for best editing.
Cuaron has a competitor not only in Pawlikowski, but also in Łukasz Żal, the author of cinematography in "Cold War". Żal was nominated for cinematography in 2015, for his work done together with Ryszard Lenczewski in Pawlikowski "Ida".
The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will take place on the 24th of February in Los Angeles.
