The Government has accepted the concept of the Central Communication Port - PM Beata Szydło announced this Tuesday. The Agent for the Central Communication Port, Mr. Mikołaj Wild, said that the new port will be based in Stanisławów located in the municipality of Baranów.
In its Tuesday communication, the Government’s Press Office announced that “the Cabinet have heard the facts regarding the construction of the Central Communication Port.” Before, at a press conference held shortly after the Government session, the PM notified journalists that the Cabinet have accepted the concept presented by Wild.
“The Minister shall present the relevant resolution next week. It shall pinpoint the location, calendar and time schedule of this biggest investment project we have planned”, said the PM.
The Agent for the Central Communication Port, Mr. Mikołaj Wild, who was present at the conference, said that, in keeping with the recommendation, the new port will be built in Stanisławów in the municipality of Baranów.
“I have been obligated by the Cabinet to present, next week, a draft resolution based on which the concept of the Solidarność [Solidarity] Airport, i.e. the Central Communication Port for the Republic of Poland will be accepted”, said Wild. He added that the concept will also include recommendations regarding the location of this investment project. “We recommend that the investment project be located in Stanisławów in the municipality of Baranów”, he said.
He informed the journalists that the talks with the regional units are already in progress. “We want this investment project to be an example of how the general interest (the Solidarity Port’s construction will benefit all Poles) and the interest of individuals (i.e. the interest of residents of the neighbouring towns/villages) can be combined”, he stressed.
“In the near future, we will present the particulars of the project at a separate conference”, he summed up.
Last week, Wild confirmed with the Polish Press Agency the previous statement of the Deputy Prime Minister – Mateusz Morawiecki – that the decision about the location of the Central Communication Port will be announced by the end of September. As Wild said then, works on the special legislation that will accelerate the pace of works on the investment project were in progress.
One of the arguments for the construction of the Central Communication Port is that the capacity of the biggest Polish airport – Warsaw Chopin Airport – that serves approximately 38% of the total airport traffic in Poland has nearly reached its peak. In 2016, the Warsaw Airport has served 12.8 million passengers, and this year’s estimates stand at 14 million. The first eight months of 2017 saw the service of 10.4 million passengers, i.e. 24% more versus the analogical period the year before. Some experts say that the capacity of the Warsaw Chopin Airport is 20 million persons a year.
The data of the Civil Aviation Office show that last year the Polish airports served nearly 34 million passengers – 12% more than in 2015. According to the forecasts, 2030 will see the service of 60 million travellers.
