Hungary's President Janos Ader and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda met in the southern Polish city of Kielce on Friday on the eve of a day marking the long friendship between their two countries.
Joined by their wives Anita Herczegh and Agata Kornhauser-Duda, the two presidents reviewed a guard of honour before making statements to the media.
Ader said he and Duda had discussed integrating their transport and energy networks to build closer ties, while Duda said he looked "with great approval" upon the policies of the current Hungarian government, which he said supported family issues.
Duda also praised the two countries' cooperation in the Visegrad Group with fellow members Czech Republic and Slovakia, and the Three Seas Initiative of central and eastern European countries.
Duda later awarded Ader the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's oldest and highest award of the Republic of Poland, at a gala on Friday evening, according to Poland's state news agency PAP.
The two presidents will continue to preside over ceremonies this weekend in Kielce. March 23 is a day marking the friendship between the two countries, first established by their respective parliaments in 2007.
