President Andrzej Duda handed over on Wednesday in Warsaw ten promotions to the rank of general and one to the rank of admiral; the Chief of Polish General Staff, General Rajmund Andrzejczak was nominated Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces during wartime.
On the Polish Armed Forces Day, five colonels received their first "stars" and were appointed Brigadier Generals: Robert Drozd, Karol Dymanowski, Dariusz Pluta, Dariusz Ryczkowski and Piotr Trytek.
Five Brigadier Generals were promoted to the rank of Major General: Maciej Jabłoński, Dariusz Łukowski, Tadeusz Mikutel, Wiesław Kukuła and Tomasz Piotrowski.
In the Polish Navy, Commodore Jerzy Krzysztof Jaworski was appointed Rear Admiral (rank equivalent of Major General in Land Forces).
The President also awarded state decorations to people of merit to Polish defense. The ceremony was held in the Presidential Place's courtyard.
15th of August marks the anniversary of a battle in the 1920 war, of which Poland came out victorious. This date was announced Polish Armed Forces Day in 1923 and was celebrated until 1947. Later on, the Armed Forces Day was held on 12 October to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Lenino and to honour the Polish 1st Tadeusz Kościuszko Infantry Division. From 1992 on, the Polish Armed Forces Day is held again on August 15.
