Poll: Close race in presidential run-off between Duda and Trzaskowski
There would be less than one percentage point between the incumbent Andrzej Duda and top opposition candidate Rafał Trzaskowski in the second round of presidential election, according to a poll by IBRiS for Wirtualna Polska (wp.pl) news portal.
On Sunday (June 14), Wirtualna Polska published a poll conducted by IBRiS pollster regarding the first round of presidential election. The results show the current president Andrzej Duda winning 40.7 percent of votes, and his main rival, mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski winning 28 percent.
The leader of the agrarian PSL party, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, would get the third result with 9.7 percent of votes. Independent candidate Szymon Hołownia would win 7.8 percent, far-right Confederation candidate Krzysztof Bosak - 7.1, whereas left-wing candidate Robert Biedroń - 3 percent.
The poll also showed 3.6 percent of respondents not having made their decision on who to vote for yet.
On Monday, wp.pl published the second part of the poll, which shows the results of a potential run-off between Andrzej Duda and Rafał Trzaskowski. The survey was carried out on June 12-13 on a nationwide sample of 1100 people.
According to the poll, Andrzej Duda would win the second round of the vote, but the gap between him and Rafał Trzaskowski would be marginal with 48.8 percent of respondents declaring support the incumbent. This is one percentage point less compared to the previous survey conducted by IBRiS two weeks before.
Support for Rafał Trzaskowski has increased by 1.6 percent compared to the previous survey, with 48 percent of those asked vowing to vote for the mayor of Warsaw.
The latest poll also shows 3.2 percent answering "hard to say". This is less than two weeks ago when the number was 4.6 percent.
The 2020 presidential election, initially scheduled for May 10, has been postponed due to the coronavirus crisis. As long as the circumstances won't deteriorate, the vote is to take place on Sunday, June 28. A likely run-off will take place two weeks later, in July 12. The latest election law amendment allows a hybrid voting method - a choice between the traditional polling station and postal ballot.
