Tragedy in Kraków. Suspect in domestic dispute dies after seizing police weapon

A domestic dispute in Kraków's Kazimierz district escalated into a tragic sequence of events, leaving a young couple dead.

On Tuesday night, police were called to an apartment on Św. Wawrzyńca Street following a report of a violent altercation. According to the Kraków Police Press Office, the call came from a neighbor who heard the commotion and was unable to contact the woman living in the apartment.

Upon arriving, officers were unable to gain access to the apartment and enlisted the help of firefighters to break in. Inside, they found a 24-year-old woman gravely injured and her 23-year-old partner, who had attempted suicide. Both were immediately attended to.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, but tragically succumbed to her injuries around 2 a.m.

The man was taken to the police station on Szeroka Street, where he was treated as a suspect in the attempted murder of his partner, which had since become a homicide investigation.

During his interrogation on Wednesday morning, while handcuffed, the 23-year-old managed to seize a firearm from an officer and fatally shot himself.

The Kraków Police confirmed the sequence of events and expressed their condolences for the tragic loss of life. They emphasized the importance of immediate action in situations of domestic violence and urged individuals to call emergency services at 997 or 112 in life-threatening situations.
