Polish People's Party (PSL) and Szymon Hołownia's Poland 2050 will run together in this year's parliamentary election. "Two democratic opposition parties have decided it's time to go the same way and build something many voters have been waiting for," Hołownia said at a press conference on Thursday (April 27). "We do have a plan for Poland. A better one, fair, industrious, prosperous," said PSL leader Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Civic Platform chief Donald Tusk commented on the two parties' decision.
"Today is a really good day. For our parties, and for Poland too, however pompous that may sound. Two democratic opposition parties have decided it's time to go the same way dand build something many voters have been waiting for. A third path in politics," Szymon Hołownia said at a press conference on Thursday.
He explained that said third path was a safe passage for those "who do not position themsleves on any side of the Polish-Polish war". "All those who need peace, hope, and a chance to put their lives on a track of their own choice," the leader of Poland 2050 added.
"After long talks we've made a joint decision to run together in the upcoming parliamentary election," he added.
"This third path, a new path, a common path, we are entering today together with the Polish People's Party is a huge joy for me, because it is a continuation of the path I have started in 2019. This is a completely new proposition which clearly says 'no' to old politics often resorting to hate, aggression, turning ones against the others. We say that's not the right way," Hołownia stressed.
Kosiniak-Kamysz: a better Poland is possible
PSL chairman Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that "a better Poland is possible".
"If something is to be great, it has to prepared well. We do have a plan for Poland. A better one, fair, industrious, prosperous, acknowledging hard-working people and all those who hope for a change in the upcoming election," he added.
"A fusion of two political circles - a young movement and a very experienced political formation. Parties having different roots, but the same values and want to go forward together not to build their own position. We want to win this election and we will do everything to win it," Kosiniak-Kamysz declared.
He also said that "such alliances require precision, responsibility, trust". "I do have trust in Szymon Hołownia and Poland 2050".
Tusk: let's all push forward
Civic Platform chief Donald Tusk commented on the two parties' decision.
"PSL+Poland 2050 - good luck! Now let's all push forward. One goal unites us: victory," he wrote in a tweet.
PSL chief Kosiniak-Kamysz replied Tusk very briefly: "Thanks, Mr Chairman".
