The coalition agreement signed on Friday (Nov.10) by leaders of Polish opposition parties - Civic Coalition, Third Way, and New Left - includes names of candidates for prime minister and deputy PMs. The deal also explains in detail how the speakers of both chambers of parliament will perform their duties in a rotational system.
On Friday, leaders of democratic oppostion parties signed the coalition agreement. The document was signed by Civic Platform chief Donald Tusk, Poland 2050 leader Szymon Hołownia, chairman of Polish People's Country (PSL), and co-chairmen of New Left - Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Robert Biedroń.
The document confirms that the coalition's candidate for prime minister is Donald Tusk of Civic Coalition.
Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz (PSL) has been named candidate for the first deputy PM, while Krzysztof Gawkowski (The Left) - candidate for deputy PM.
The coalition also agreed that Szymon Hołownia (Third Way, Poland 2050) would serve as the speaker of the Sejm until Nov. 13, 2025. He would be replaced the following day until the end of the term by Włodzimierz Czarzasty of New Left.
Civic Coalition will name two deputy speakers of Sejm for the duration of the full term, while PSL will name one. New Left will put forward one deputy speaker of the Sejm for the period between Nov. 13, 2023 and Nov. 13, 2025, whereas a candidate named by Poland 2050 will take over this role the following day.
Szymon Hołownia confirmed that Piotr Zgorzelski will be PSL's candidate for deputy speaker of the Sejm.
According to the agreement, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska (Civic Coalition) is to serve as speaker of the Senate until Nov. 13, 2025. She is to be replaced by a person chosen by Civic Coalition.
When it comes to the Presidium of the Senate, the coalition is to submit four candidates - one from KO, PSL, Poland 2050, and New Left each.
The agreement also stipulates that all decisions within the coalition are to be taken in a consensual manner. Furthermore, each of the parliamentary clubs will be bound by discipline in voting on bills and resolutions drafted by the coalition government and projects initiated by groups of MPs approved by these parliamentary clubs.
