Polish football champions Legia Warszawa appointed Portuguese former star Ricardo Sa Pinto as manager. Chairman Dariusz Mioduski hopes the decision will lead end the crisis and put the club back on the winning track.
The Portuguese has replaced an acting manager Aleksandar Vukovic who managed to grab 3 points against Piast Gliwice which was topping the table before the match on Sunday.
Last season, the 45-year-old Sa Pinto has won the Belgian Cup with Standard Liege. Before coming to Belgium he was coaching, among others, Greek side Atromitos Athens, Serbian Crvena Zvezda and Portuguese Belenenses and Sporting Lisbon.
During his playing career, Sa Pinto was a offensive midfielder of attacker. He played, among others, for Sporting Lisbon (in 2005 his club lost 1:3 to CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Cup final), Standard Liege and Real Sociedad San Sebastian.
He played 45 caps for Portugal between 1994-2001 and scored 10 goals. Sa Pinto took part in Euro 1996 and 2000. Portugal won bronze medal in the latter.
Ricardo Sa Pinto's first match as manager will be played on Thursday in Luxembourg where Legia will try to take revenge on F91 Dudelange after losing to the semi-professional team 1:2 in Warsaw.
