The October 13 parliamentary elections are valid - the Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs Chamber of the Supreme Court announced on Monday.
"After analysing the National Electoral Commission's (PKW) report and opinions issued, in particular regarding revealed shortcomings, the Supreme Court decided that none of the said shortcomings, as well as all of them combined, do not give grounds to question the validity of the October 13, 2019 elections to the Sejm and the Senate (lower and upper house respectively)" - said the head of the Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs Chamber of the Supreme Court (SN) judge Joanna Lemańska.
Earlier on, during the session of the Chamber, the PKW chief judge Wiesław Kozielewicz and deputy prosecutor general Robert Hernand both filed for recognising the elections as valid. Both agreed that in the electoral procedure there were no law violations that should result in deeming the vote invalid.
According to regulations, the SN decided on the validity of elections after examining all submitted electoral protests - based on the PKW report on the vote, as well as on opinions issued on with regard to particular protests.
After this year's parliamentary elections, the Supreme Court received 279 electoral protests, of which only 10 were deemed as valid, yet the irregularities found had not influenced the overall outcome of the vote.
The substantial majority of protests have been left without further consideration.
