Poland's Interior Minister and Special Services Coordinator Mariusz Kamiński said at a press conference on Thursday that in recent days the Internal Security Agency (ABW) had detained nine people suspected of working for Russian special services.
"The suspects were carrying out espionage activity against Poland and planning acts of sabotage on the orders of the Russian intelligence," he explained, adding that the detained were foreigners from behind Poland's eastern border.
"The court has placed six of them under temporary arrest. The prosecutor's office has issued charges of spying for Russia as well as participating in an organized crime group," Kamiński added.
Kamiński: the group surveilled arms transports to Ukraine
"The evidence material shows that said group carried out surveillance of railway routes. Its tasks included, among other things, recconaissance, surveillance, and documenting of arms transports to Ukraine," Kamiński said.
He added that "the suspects were planning acts of sabotage aimed to cripple the deliveries of equipment, weapons, and support for Ukraine".
Kamiński also informed that the ABW secured cameras, electronic equipment, and GPS transmitters which were meant to be planted on humanitarian convoys for Ukraine.
Private radio broadcaster RMF FM was the first to report on the breaking of the Russian spy network on Wednesday.
