A ruling PiS party lawmaker Przemysław Czarnecki has been suspended as party member. The MP spent the night and half of Friday at the sobering-up station at Kolska Street in Warsaw. The decision to suspend Czarnecki was made by party chairman Jarosław Kaczyński.

On Friday (October 21) morning we informed at tvnwarszawa.pl that PiS MP Przemysław Czarnecki had been taken to a sobering-up station at Kolska Street in Warsaw. Paramedics had found him lying on the street next to a bus stop at the crossing of Ledóchowska and Branickiego Streets in Warsaw's district of Wilanów. According to our unofficial sources, he had over 0.20% blood alcohol content.

After 5 p.m. on Friday, Czarnecki left the sobering up facility. TVN24 reporter Artur Molęda asked the MP if he was feeling ashamed of what had happened the previous night, but he declined to comment.

A one-off stay at Warsaw's drunk tank costs 343 zlotys. A person taken to Kolska Street can only be released from the facility once they have fully sobered up, that is when a test shows 0% of blood alcohol content.

MP Czarnecki suspended

On Friday afternoon, PiS spokesperson Radosław Fogiel announced that the party chairman Jarosław Kaczyński had suspended MP Czarnecki's rights as party member and referred his case to the party disciplinary authority.

Przemysław Czarnecki has been serving his second term as a member of parliament. He serves as deputy chair of foreign affairs committee, is a member of national defence committee, and of permanent subcomittee for cooperation with foreign partners and NATO. In the current term, he still has not submitted any interpelations or inquiry.

PiS MP accused of inflicting knife wound

Przemysław Czarnecki is currently on trial as he has been accused of injuring his guest during a New Year's Eve party.

The incident took place on January 1, 2019, in Czarnecki's flat in Warsaw's Wilanów district. As tvn24.pl reported at the time, the MPs wife had called the police emergency line. She requested help because her husband was said to have wounded their child's godfather's arm with a knife. Personal affairs were said to have been the motive of the aggression.

The MP told tvn24.pl at the time he had pleaded not guilty to the charges, as he was innocent. "I hope I can clear my name before an independent court as soon as possible," he said.
