On Monday, March 2, the Sejm passed a bill on special measures regarding the spread of the new coronavirus.

In the late evening vote, 400 MPs were in favour of the bill, 11 were against, and 7 abstained.

The first reading of the draft legislation was held on Monday during the session of the lower house health committee. The second was held in the evening at the Plenary Hall, followed by the vote.

The bill passed by the lower house would allow employers to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease by ordering their employees to work from home.

Furthermore, the bill assumes compensation for parents forced to stay at home in case of closed nurseries, preschools and schools.

Moreover, in case of epidemics, the bill would allow the government to adopt resolutions closing off certain areas of danger and establishing special measures to apply within these areas.
