NBP to release a collector banknote with late president Lech Kaczyński

The National Bank of Poland (NBP) is to release a collector banknote in November with the country's late president Lech Kaczyński. The note will also feature Gdańsk Shipyard cranes and the Warsaw rising Museum building, according to a banner hanged outside the central bank's headquarters in Warsaw.

The National Bank of Poland Governor, Adam Glapiński, in April officially approved and signed the pattern of a 20-zloty collector banknote "Lech Kaczyński. It's worth being Polish".

A banner hanged outside the NBP seat in Warsaw suggests that, apart from an image of Poland's late president Lech Kaczyński, twin brother of Jarosław Kaczyński, the bill will also feature the Presidential Palace on the front. The backside will show Gdańsk Shipyard cranes, the Warsaw Rising Museum, as well as the V sign gesture as a symbol of victory.

The NBP has scheduled the release of 80,000 copies of the banknote for November 9, 2021.

Collector banknotes are paper currency issued specifically with collectors and numismatists in mind. They are released on the occasion of important events or to commemorate outstanding personages and their role in the history of Poland and Poles, the NBP wrote at its website.

The first Polish collector banknote, of 50 zlotys face value and depicting Pope John Paul II, was issued in 2006.
