Polish economy grew by 8.5% in the first quarter of 2022 year on year, according to a flash estimate released on Tuesday by Statistics Poland. For comparison, Poland's gross domestic product in Q4 of 2021 increased by 7.3% in relation to the corresponding period in 2020.
Economists expected the GDP growth rate at 8% in a yearly comparison, and at 1.7% quarter-on-quarter.
Poland's central bank chief Adam Glapiński said in early May that the GDP in Q1 "most likely accelerated up to 8%".
In a flash estimate released on Tuesday (May 17), Statistics Poland informed that the seasonally unadjusted GDP in the first quarter of 2022 increased by 8.5 year-on-year against a 0.6% decrease in the corresponding period in 2021.
"In the 1st quarter of 2022 seasonally adjusted GDP (constant prices, reference year 2015) was higher by 2.4% than in the previous quarter and 9.1% higher than in the 1st quarter of the previous year," the agency added.
Statistics Poland underscores that the data is preliminary and "can be subject to revision, in accordance with the revision policy of quarterly national accounts, in the first regular estimate of GDP for the 1st quarter of 2022 which will be released on May 31, 2022".
