They were swimming at an unguarded spot, they have drowned. Two men, aged 70 and 72, have been pulled out the Baltic Sea in Międzyzdroje (West Pomeranian voivodeship) on Monday. Despite resuscitation attempts, the men couldn't have been saved.
The spokesperson for the voivodeship commander of the State Fire Service in Szczecin, Deputy Captain Tomasz Kubiak, informed that the men were pulled out of the water before 1pm.
The chief of the Water Rescue Coordination Centre in Szczecin, Łukasz Kamiński, said that when the rescuers arrived at the scene, one person had been already taken out of the water.
"The rescuers immediately taken out the second person. Unfortunately, both men suffered from cardiac arrest and circulatory-respiratory resuscitation was necessary," he said. The men, aged 70 and 72, couldn't have been saved. They were both from the Greater Poland voivodeship.
As Kamiński informed, the men had gone into the water at an unguarded section of the beach. He explained that the conditions weren't good enough to swim and that's why the red flag was flying.
"The two men did not adhere to the rescuers' advice, who had said that swimming was prohibited," he added.
According the Government Centre for Security, 321 people drowned in Poland since April 1.
