Polish Border Guard informed on Friday that more than 3 million people from Ukraine have crossed the Polish border since the first day of Russia's attack on Ukraine (Feb.24). The institution added that 924,000 people have crossed the border in the opposite direction.
The Border Guard said on Friday that since February 24, which was the first day of Russian invasion into Ukraine, over 3 million people from Ukraine have checked in at Polish border crossings.
The service added that 24,100 people from Ukraine entered Poland on Thursday, which was 2.7% less than on Wednesday (24,800). Nearly 7,000 people entered Poland by 7 a.m. on Friday.
19,700 people crossed the border in the opposite direction on Thursday, and 924,000 since Feb.24, the Border Guard said.
Money to help refugees
Deputy Interior Minister Paweł Szefernaker, who serves as the Government Plenipotentiary for war refugees from Ukraine, announced on Wednesday that local governments had received over 1.1 billion zlotys as aid for refugees. "Of which 434 million zlotys were earmarked for accomodation and food for the refugees. This money was sent to Polish families," he said.
He added that the governement had asked the EU Commission for additional funds to support refugees from Ukraine, and urged other EU countries to offer war refugees from Ukraine shelter options.
