Poland's Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, a candidate in the Civic Coalition's presidential primary, met with residents of Łódź. He said that Vladimir Putin is only threatening with nuclear weapons, but will not use them. "He has much weaker cards than he pretends," Sikorski said. According to Sikorski, Russia's economy "will start to collapse" next year. During the speech, an incident occurred involving pro-Palestinian activists.
On Wednesday (November 20), Radosław Sikorski, Poland's Foreign Minister and a candidate in the presidential primary for the Civic Coalition, met with residents of Łódź. A significant portion of his speech was dedicated to security issues.
"Putin is threatening with nuclear weapons. I believe he will not use them. I think his cards are much weaker than he pretends," Sikorski stated.
He went on to say: "If Russia had the second-largest army in the world, it wouldn’t need to buy drones from Iran, old ammunition, or recruit mercenaries from North Korea." He also noted that "there are mutinies starting among the soldiers" in Russia.
"Putin is chasing his tail"
Sikorski stated that "wars end in different ways." He reminded the audience that in 1917, "Russia dropped out of the war because the soldiers no longer wanted to fight; they preferred to shoot their officers rather than march to certain death." He added that "Russia only reforms as a result of lost wars."
"I believe Putin is chasing his tail, and that next year his economy will simply begin to collapse. It's already very bad," he assessed.
According to Sikorski, "we should provide Ukraine with support for resistance for one more year, because then negotiations will be possible that will lead to some fair and, therefore, lasting peace."
Speech interrupted by activists
Sikorski's speech was interrupted by pro-Palestinian activists, who shouted slogans such as "Stop the occupation," "Break ties with Israel," and "Free Palestine."
"Yes, Poland is against the occupation. Poland recognizes the statehood of Palestine, unlike many other European countries," Sikorski responded. "You’ve already won, you don't have to shout," he said to one of the activists.
He added that "Poland has repeatedly criticized illegal settlements in the West Bank, and in recent months, Poland has voted in the United Nations in favor of raising Palestine's status at the UN."
"It was not a decision against Israel, but in support of a two-state solution. Poland believes that two nations should live side by side in peace, within their own states," Sikorski declared.
The activists were asked to leave the room.
