Poland recorded the second case of Omicron variant. The health ministry said on Friday that the new coronavirus variant has been detected in a three-year-old girl from Warsaw.
"We have confirmed the second case of Omicron variant of coronavirus in Poland. Infection has been detected in a 3-year-old girl from Warsaw" - the health ministry said in a tweet on Friday.
The ministry added that the sample taken from the girl was being processesed in Katowice, and that the chief sanitary inspector was conducting an epidemiological interview.
Poland detected its first case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant on Thursday. A 30-year-old woman from Lesotho, who was taking part in U.N. digital summit in Katowice, tested positive for the new variant.
Silesian region authorities said on Thursday that the woman's condition was good and she was placed in isolation in Myszków.
The ministry also informed on Friday that 20,027 new infection cases and 566 COVID-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
Since the start of the pandemic Poland has reported 3,923,472 infections and 90,872 deaths.
