The Health Ministry informed on Tuesday about 36,995 new coronavirus infection cases, and the death of 252 COVID patients. Since the start of the pandemic Poland has reported 4,584,360 infections and 104,097 COVID-related deaths.
According to the Ministry of Health, the highest number of Tuesday's infection cases were reported in the Masovian Voivodeship - 6,340.
The 36,995 infections reported on Tuesday by the ministry is the second-highest daily report since the start of the pandemic in Poland. The record number was reported on Saturday (Jan. 22) - 40,876 cases.
Last week on Tuesday, the ministry informed about 19,652 new infections. Today's figure is higher by 17,343 cases, which translates into an 88% increase.
The average number of daily infections for the last seven days has increased up to 34,449 and is the highest since the start of the pandemic in Poland. The peak average of daily infections during the the first wave amounted to 759 cases, reported on August 27, 2020. In the second wave the peak was at 25,600 cases daily on average, reported on November 11, 2020. In the third wave - nearly 28,900, reported on April 1, 2021; and in the fourth - over 23,400, reported on December 7, 2021.
The ministry also informed about the death of 252 COVID patients, of which 189 had pre-existing medical conditions.
The daily average number of COVID-related deaths for the last seven days has decreased down to 201 and is the lowest since November 17, 2021.
Since the start of the pandemic Poland has reported a total of 4,584,360 infections and 104,097 deaths.
The number of active cases, that is people who are currently going through infection, has risen up to 613,349 and is the highest since the start of the pandemic.
