Legia Warsaw sacked Croatian coach Dean Klafurić on Wednesday - reads the statement published on the club's official webpage. The day before, the Polish champions were knocked out in the 2nd round of Champions League qualifications.
"The negotiations regarding hiring a new manager should be concluded within two weeks. Until then, Aleksandar Vukovic will be acting manager with the support of the current staff," Legia informs in the statement.
In the 2nd round of Champions League qualifications, Legia has lost to Slovakian champions Spartak Trnava 0:2 at home. A 1:0 win on Tuesday's second leg wasn't enough to qualify. Polish champions will now play in the 3rd round of Europa League qualifications against Dudelange (Luxembourg) or Drita (Kosovo).
After the World Cup, former Poland's coach Adam Nawałka has been linked with Legia by the media and experts. Recently, he is a frequent guest of Legia's chairman Dariusz Mioduski.
Although many pundits claim that the deal is just a matter of time, Mioduski only confirms his admiration for Nawałka's professionalism, but remains silent about plans of bringing him to the club.
According to unofficial news, Nawałka has demanded a contract too high for Legia. Furthermore, he would like to implement his own vision of organizing the club's structure, with him having biggest control. This stands in contrast with the way Mioduski is running the club.
