A wall of a desolate tenement house collapsed in the centre of Poland's southern city of Bielsko-Biała. "A courtyard-side wall has collapsed. We're searching the debris to make sure no one was hurt," said Aneta Gołębiowska from Silesian Fire Service.

The accident happened on Monday at 11 a.m. Silesian Fire Service spokesperson said that seven fire units were working at the scene, and that a search-and-rescue team from Jastrzębie-Zdrój was on its way.

"The accident took place in a two-storey tenement house at Celna Street. The building was filled with safety measures preventing people from going inside. Everything seems to suggest that there shouldn't be any people in the debris," Aneta Gołębiowska said.

She added, however, that the debris would be thoroughly searched. Bielsko-Biała Fire Service spokesperson Patrycja Pokrzywa added that the vacant building was secured and closed. "The doors were locked with a chain," she said.

Firefighters tried to remove the debris but paused due to the poor condition of the building.

"Dziennik Zachodni" was the first to report about the collapsed building.
