Denmark's King Frederik X visited a NATO base in the port city of Szczecin on Friday (February 2) at the end of a visit to Poland.
The king's visit in the port city of Szczecin began on Thursday (Feb. 1) evening with an official reception at Szczecin Philharmonic Hall, where he delivered the welcoming speech.
On Friday morning, the Danish monarch attended a ceremony of laying of the foundation stone for a new Vestas offshore factory. The new facility, which will produce blades for offshore wind turbines, is expected to be ready for use in 2026 and create more than 1,000 jobs in the area in the long term.
Next, Frederik visited NATO's multinational corps headquarters in Szczecin. The king was received by base commander Major General Juergen-Joachim von Sandrart and met with Danish personnel of the base and their families.
The king also received a briefing about the current duties of the headquarters, which is a part of NATO’s force structure and plays a crucial role for defence in the region.
Earlier on his visit, King Frederik met with Deputy Mayor of Warsaw Michał Olszewski to discuss a project that can potentially collect and reuse the metro's surplus heat by sending it into the city's district heating system. A letter of intent was signed between Warsaw's Metro, a number of Danish companies and Denmark's Export and Investment Fund.
Furthermore, the monarch had been welcomed on his first official visit as King by Polish President Andrzej Duda at the Presidential Palace, and met other Polish politicians and business people in Warsaw.
Frederik took the throne in January, succeeding his mother, Queen Margrethe II, becoming head of state not only in Denmark but also in two former colonies, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, both sovereign territories.
