The final stage of a contest for the best name for a little Bongo antelope from Warsaw Zoo was very tough. The battle between the two best proposals lasted until the last second, but the lovely ungulate has been named. The best name received 55 percent of votes.
"Let's welcome a Warsaw-born lady of African origin: we give You a Bongo antelope, our lovely bongoddess MOLLY! This is the name you have finally chosen in our contest!" - Warsaw Zoo said in a Facebook post.
The tight final battle between Mia and Molly lasted until the very last second. Molly has won with 55 percent of votes, Mia has lost with 45 percent. The Zoo employees reminded that Molly means: cheerful, active, happy.
In the first stage of the contest around 2,000 name proposals were submitted, but only four of them made it to the semifinals. The best two names made it to the final in which the Warsaw Zoo followers have chosen the winner.
The "Bongoddess" was born on April 22 (on Earth Day) and immediately won the hearts of the Zoo employees, as well as fans and visitors.
In the beginning the little female was spending time only close to her mom, but she's doing better each day on the external enclosure where she joyfully capers. It's really worth seeing her go live right next to the giraffe section.
She is the first child of 7-year-old Chilli and 8-year-old Franek. Her loving mom has immediately taken care of her baby in an outstanding fashion. The baby spent its first days mainly asleep, but quickly after she became more active and interested in the surrounding world.
In total, six bongo antelopes live in Warsaw Zoo: Franek - the only male, and five females - Chilli, Walkiria, Maliki, Hela and the young "bongoddess".
