"The Civic Coalition has so many politicians with vast experience that there is truly a lot to choose from," Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski told TVN24 on Thursday (October 31), responding to a question about his chances of becoming the KO candidate in next year's presidential election. He also spoke about the "most important indicator" regarding who should run.
The Mayor of Warsaw, who also serves as a Deputy Chairman of the Civic Platform, was asked about the emerging suggestions that Radosław Sikorski should be the candidate for the Civic Coalition in the presidential election due to his greater experience in diplomacy and defense.
Trzaskowski replied that he also has experience in this area from his time as a Member of the European Parliament. "I dealt with defense policy in the European Parliament when it was being formed. By the way, I wrote my M.A. thesis on this topic. But above all, I am happy that the Civic Coalition has so many politicians with such vast experience that there is really a lot to choose from. Therefore, we should be pleased," he said.
"I’ve cut my teeth on this"
Trzaskowski also mentioned that he often talks with Prime Minister and Chairman of the Civic Platform Donald Tusk. "That’s completely natural. We have a lot of common things to do," he said.
"We talk not only about municipal or local government politics, ... but we also discuss all the challenges ahead of us, European policy, because I’ve cut my teeth on that, or about the elections in the United States, because they are incredibly important to us," the Mayor of Warsaw continued.
Trzaskowski: Tusk doesn’t have to tell me not to worry
"Does Donald Tusk occasionally say to you: 'Don’t worry, Rafał, you will be our candidate'?" asked the show host, Andrzej Morozowski.
"Donald Tusk doesn’t have to say to me 'don’t worry,' because that would imply that I am anxious," he replied.
"We talk about politics, and we also discuss who has the greatest chances. All kinds of research show this. This is the most important indicator for us, because it’s not about mutual sympathies; it’s simply about winning the election," he emphasized.
