Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi shared on social media that he had a phone conversation with Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Wednesday (November 20). The discussion focused on continued support for Kyiv. Zelensky also revealed that he spoke with Tusk about Ukraine's expectations regarding Poland's upcoming presidency of the EU Council at the beginning of next year.
"I spoke with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and thanked the Polish people for the solidarity from the very first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion. I expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his principled reaction to Russia’s recent attacks and efforts to break its political isolation," Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
He said they had discussed "Poland’s upcoming 45th support package and its work on the next defense aid package."
Expectations regarding Poland's EU presidency
The Ukrainian president also shared his hopes for Poland’s presidency of the EU Council next year, counting on "their support in advancing Ukraine’s EU integration, including opening the first negotiation cluster and moving forward with others in parallel."
"I expressed my gratitude to Prime Minister Tusk for using his extensive personal connections to advocate for Ukraine’s NATO membership and for continued defense support," he added.
Zelensky also mentioned that he and Tusk had agreed to meet before the end of this year.
"1000 days of Ukrainian heroism and suffering"
Tusk expressed his support for Ukraine on Tuesday on X. "1000 days of Russian aggression, 1000 days of Ukrainian heroism and suffering, 1000 days of Polish aid and solidarity," he wrote.
"By supporting Ukraine, we’re moving the war away from our Polish and European borders. Let us remember that every single day," added Polish PM.
