A six-year-old Afghan boy who ate poisonous mushrooms has died. Doctors from the Child Health Centre on Friday confirmed the child's brain death. On Tuesday the boy underwent a liver transplant, but his condition worsened. On Thursday, doctors confirmed the death of his 5-year-old brother.

"We've pronounced the child dead," Child Health Centre spokesperson Katarzyna Gardzińska informed on Friday. A few hours earlier, the doctors informed about launching of a procedure aimed at confirming or ruling out the boy's brain death.

The six-year-old underwent a liver transplant on Tuesday. According to the hospital, the liver at first started to work properly, but the following day the boy showed increasing symptoms of severe central nerve system damage.

After being evacuated from Kabul, the Afghans were placed in a centre for foreigners in Podkowa Leśna-Dębak, where they ate poisonous mushroom they had picked at the facility. The two boys, in critical condition, were taken to Warsaw's Child Health Centre.

On Thursday, the doctors informed about the death of the younger brother - a five-year-old.
