World number one Iga Świątek is awaiting an update on a thigh injury sustained in the quarter-finals of the Italian Open on Wednesday (May 17). "The diagnostic is in progress. More info in the following days. Will keep you updated," the Polish player said on Twitter on Thursday.
The injury comes just 12 days before the French Open, where the two-time defending champion will be hoping to win a fourth Grand Slam.
During Wednesday's match Świątek requested a medical timeout after Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina came from behind to take the second set in a tiebreak and the Polish top seed, who returned with her leg taped up, withdrew with the third set level at 2-2.
"Hi Guys. I'm sure you're thinking about what happened last night. We're checking it. During the second set I got a thigh injury," Świątek said in a tweet on Thursday.
"The diagnostic is in progress. More info in the following days. Will keep you updated," she added.
It remains uncertain whether the Polish player will take part in this year's Roland Garros which starts on May 22.
Świątek has won the French Open already twice: in 2020 and 2022.
