A Spanish soldier was killed in an accident on Monday (April 22) during NATO Saber Strike 2024 military exercise held in Bemowo Piskie in the northeast of Poland. "We honor his memory!" - Poland's defence ministry said in condolences published on X.
The Spanish military informed on the X platform that the soldier was killed in an accident which happened at a training ground during NATO Saber Strike 2024 maneouvres in Bemowo Piskie, northeastern Poland.
"In this painful moment, we would like to express our heartfeld condolences and unwavering support for his family and colleagues," the military command added.
"The accident happened during a tactical exercise with the use of live ammunition," the Spanish army added.
Spanish daily El Mundo said the deceased 43-year-old soldier was of Equadorian origin. He was survived by two daughters.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and chief of People's Party Alberto Nunez Feijoo have extended their condolences to the family of the late soldier, who served in the Spanish army since 2004.
Poland's Ministry of National Defence has also expressed deep regret due to the Spanish serviceman's tragic death. "We honor his memory!" - Polish MOD said.
