Severe flooding has reached Barcelona and its surrounding regions, affecting the city where football star Robert Lewandowski resides with his family. "We'll see how it looks in the afternoon, as more rain is expected," Anna Lewandowska, the player's wife, said on Monday (November 4).
A catastrophic and unprecedented flood that struck Valencia last week has resulted in the deaths of over 200 people. Search efforts for the missing are still ongoing, and the death toll is expected to rise significantly as rescue teams have yet to reach many affected areas.
Over the weekend, the flooded regions experienced additional rainfall, although it was lighter than before. However, on Monday, heavy rains also reached Barcelona and its surrounding areas, causing flooding at El Prat Airport. As a result, numerous flights have been canceled.
Castelldefels, a town located about a 20-minute drive from the Catalan capital of Barcelona, has also experienced significant rainfall. This is the area where football star Robert Lewandowski resides with his family.
"A rainbow appeared"
Anna Lewandowska, the wife of FC Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski, shared images of the flooded city on her social media. The fitness trainer and influencer posted a video of herself wading barefoot through the water. Her Instagram stories also captured scenes near the beach, where cars struggled to navigate the deep floodwaters. In one image, a vehicle is completely submerged.
In a subsequent update, she showcased clearer skies and her return home. "After the downpour, the sun came out. Thankfully, the rain has stopped, and a rainbow appeared. We’ll see how it looks in the afternoon since more rain is forecasted. For now, I’m at home with the kids. I had to rush to pick up Klara from school in record time—just 40 minutes. Well, now it’s time to get to work," Lewandowska said.
Minute of silence for victims
On Sunday, a minute of silence was observed during the Barcelona derby in memory of those who lost their lives in the recent floods in the Valencia region.
Just a day earlier, there were concerns that the match might be canceled due to the impending rain. Ultimately, the game went on as scheduled without any disruptions, while the severe weather arrived nearly 20 hours later.
