The issue of general Jarosław Kraszewski has been dragging on for three months now, while Antoni Macierewicz keeps silent. The advisor to the President Andrzej Duda still has no access to confidential information, which prevents him from exercising his official duties. Material by “Polska i Świat”.
Law and Justice politicians from the special forces committee send us to the Military Counterintelligence Service for comments on general Kraszewski, head of the Armed Forces Supervision Department at the National Security Bureau. “For sure, the service has a reason and is probably investigating it. These matters are between general Kraszewski and the Military Counterintelligence Service”, said Marek Opioła, chairman of the special forces committee when interviewed by the reporter of “Polska i Świat”.
“The President is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces so he can request information”, he went on to add.
President has not received, either, any information from the Minister of National Defence who supervises the Military Counterintelligence Service. As informed by the National Security Bureau, despite the earlier official letters and requests for explaining the reservations formulated by Minister Macierewicz about general Jarosław Kraszewski, the head of the Ministry of National Defence has not, to date, replied to any letter on the matter and has provided no explanations.
A month ago, the spokesperson for the government, following the President’s meeting with the head of the government on that matter was assuring us that “the Prime Minister also talked to her ministers, Macierewicz and Mariusz Kamiński”.
“When it comes to the matter of general Kraszewski, the Prime Minister believes the matter should be resolved as quickly as possible and without undue delay” said back then Rafał Bochenek, the government’s spokesman.
Former Minister of Defence, Tomasz Siemoniak, pointed out that “Prime Minister can do nothing”.
The reason for putting the nomination on hold
According to off-the-record information, the issue of general Kraszewski has been the main reason why the President has put general nominations on hold.
“Were President Duda to take a step back and sacrifice his associate, he will not gain respect among the army”, said Siemoniak . “Meanwhile, were Minister Macierewicz to back out, he would thus admit that this was a purely political manoeuvre”, former head of the Ministry of National Defence went on to add.
The general, despite the on-going investigation and despite the limitations, is still Andrzej Duda’s major military advisor.
“The counterintelligence service is always very diligent in conducting such investigations. This takes time”, explains Michał Dworczyk, deputy head of the Ministry of National Defence.
Minister Macierewicz, has not officially commented on the matter since the investigation started, i.e. since June.
Investigation proceedings
In June, the Military Counterintelligence Service started investigation proceedings with respect to general Kraszewski, which meant stripping him off the access to confidential information. The Ministry of National Defence assured that immediately after the investigation proceedings with respect to general Kraszewski are closed, all the necessary information on that matter would be shared with the head of the National Security Bureau.
The National Security Bureau informed that the President has no information that could undermine trust in general Kraszewski and has not received from the head of the Ministry of National Defence any explanation on the unofficial reservations minister Macierewicz had formulated against Kraszewski.
