On the 1st of September, during the commemorations at Westerplatte, the Remembrance Appeal will be read out by a Polish Navy officer - the Mayor of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz informed after a meeting with the army and defense ministry's representatives that took place in Gdańsk City Hall on Friday.
"We have agreed that the Scouts will mark the centenary of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association with an appeal after which they will read out the names of Scouts killed during WWII. Next, the Polish Navy officer will read out the Remenbrance Appeal," the Mayor of Gdańsk informed.
Each year, on the 1st of September at Westerplatte the Remembrance Appeal is read out to commemorate those who had died in defense of Poland, including the soldiers from Westerplatte.
Mr Adamowicz added that "a defense ministry's representative has reassured" that there will be no so-called Smoleńsk Appeal during the official celebrations at Westerplatte.
Shortly after, the Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak told journalists that "the Polish Army will be present at Westerplatte on September 1. We will make sure the observances are held with full military ceremonial, including a Polish Army's officer reading out the Remembrance Appeal".
