A CCTV camera in Nowy Dwór Gdański caught a woman throwing a small bag into a river. Children playing in the park heard terrifying meowing and alarmed adults. Shortly after, the cameras recorded another woman stepping in the water and saving the kittens.
On Sunday, August 1, around 8:30 p.m., a CCTV camera recorded a woman approaching a river in a city park at Kopernika street. She was holding a tied shopping bag, which she then threw into the water with no hesitation and went away.
It turned out that newborn kittens were inside the bag. Desperate meowing alarmed children who were playing nearby. The kids immediately told adults about the situation.
A woman who was in the park with her 4-year-old daughter decided to act immediately. She told her daughter to wait on the shore, took her dress off and stepped into the water. It didn't take her long to take the kittens ashore.
New home for two saved kittens
The woman managed to save two kittens. Unfortunately, the third one died. The two survivors were adopted by the brave resident of Nowy Dwór Gdański. The little ones are safe and sound.
The police quickly identified the woman who had thrown the bag in the water. The 67-year-old was detained less than 20 minutes after the report. She was charged with extreme cruelty to animals, and then allowed to go home. She will be facing up to 5 years in prison.
