The Government Centre for Security (RCB) has sent out text messages with warnings to the residents of four counties located at the Vistula river, as the flood wave is expected to pass through Lubelskie and Masovian voivodeships. Earlier on, similar alerts were sent out to residents of Świętokrzyskie, Lesser Poland and Subcarpathian voivodeships.
Anna Adamkiewicz from the Governement Centre for Security has told Polish Press Agency (PAP) that such alerts were being sent out since Thursday. At first they were directed to the residents of Lesser Poland and then to people living in Świętokrzyskie and Subcarpathian voivodeships.
On Sunday, the RCB has sent out text messages to the residents of puławski and rycki counties in Lubelskie voivodehsip, as well as zwoleński and kozienicki counties in Masovia. In those messages, the RCB warns that on Monday and Tuesday in the abovementioned voivodeships a peak flood wave is expected to pass and thus cautions residents to stay away from the river areas.
According to information provided by the spokesperson of the State Fire Service, Paweł Frątczak, on Sunday 11 hydrometric stations all over Poland showed alarming water levels, of which 10 on the Vistula and 1 on the Oder.
The peak wave is expected to pass through Warsaw on Tuesday, however, according to Warsaw Fire Service, it should not be dangerous. "When it comes to Warsaw, the whole thing should simply blow over. The wave should reach Vistulan Boulevards on Tuesday at 6 am and it's expected to be no higher than 600 centimetres. It shouldn't be higher than the danger point," the fire service informed.
On Sunday, third and the the highest flood alert was in force only in Lubelskie voivodeship. The secind degree alert was issued for Masovian voivodeship. In the southern parts of Silesian, Lesser Poland and Subcarpathian storms and downpour of hailstones were expected.
