Two frigates that are part of Standing NATO Maritime Group One - SNMG-1 - entered the port of Gdynia on Friday morning (December 2). The Dutch and Danish vessels have come to Poland to restock.
The two frigates fromStanding NATO Maritime Group One arrived in Gdynia port on Friday morning. They dropped anchors at the French Wharf.
The first vessel to arrive was a Danish Absalon-class frigate HDMS Esbern Snare (F342), which is amongst the largest combat vessels currently commissioned in the Royal Danish Navy. It has been in service since 2005 and is one of NATO's regularly used vessels. It took part, among other missions, in operations against pirates near the coast of Somalia and on the Gulf of Guinea.
Later on arrived a Dutch De Zeven Provinciën-class frigate HNLMS Tromp (F803) of the Royal Netherlands Navy. In service since 2003, the vessel took part in numerous operations aimed at securing maritime trade as well as anti-pirate missions on the Indian Ocean.
Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG-1) is one of NATO's standing naval maritime immediate reaction forces. SNMG1 consists of four to six destroyers and frigates. Its role is to provide NATO with an immediate operational response capability.
According to Poland's 3rd Ship Flotilla spokesperson Anna Sech, it is a standard working visit. "The vessels have entered the port of Gdynia to restock," she said.
