"Dozens of police officers, using quads and drones, conducted large-scale searches. Just before 2 p.m., deep in the forest between the villages of Sosna Trojanki and Osiny Górne, the police discovered a burnt car with registration plates. It is likely the Toyota the suspect had been driving. Inside the burnt vehicle, there were charred remains, probably of the sought 53-year-old man. The identity of the person in the vehicle will be definitively confirmed by tests. Investigations with the prosecutor's involvement are ongoing at the scene," the police added.
A large number of shell casings
The incident had occurred earlier that day on Topolowa Street, in an area with single-family homes, narrow streets, and a lot of greenery. "A woman, about 50 years old, died there. She had gunshot wounds to her chest area. She was found in the yard, near a car," tvnwarszawa.pl's Artur Węgrzynowicz reported from the scene.
He added that a large number of shell casings and fragments of a destroyed vehicle were secured at the property. "The woman was unconscious and showed no signs of life. The police attempted resuscitation, but the injuries were too severe," the reported said.
"There are uniformed and plainclothed officers in the area. They are searching the surroundings using a metal detector. This device is used by police when searching for items, such as shell casings, that are difficult to spot at first glance," he described.
District Prosecutor from Siedlce, Katarzyna Wąsak, only confirmed in the morning that a woman's body had been found on Topolowa Street.
The police had earlier informed that "before 7 a.m., Siedlce police officers received a report about an injured woman lying on one of the properties."
"Officers were sent to the scene, where they found the wounded woman. Despite the help provided, the woman died. Procedural activities were initiated at the scene, including a detailed inspection under the supervision of the prosecutor. At the same time, the search for the perpetrator, who is likely the woman's husband, began," the statement said.
He was a policeman
"Immediately, procedural actions were taken under the supervision of the prosecutor, and the search for the perpetrator was launched," Ewelina Radomyska, spokesperson for the Siedlce police, told TVN24. She also confirmed our earlier findings about the gunshot wounds. "There were numerous," she summarized.
The spokesperson also stated that the sought-after man, the victim’s husband, was a police officer, but no longer on active duty. "This doesn't affect the ongoing investigation," she emphasized.
Artur Węgrzynowicz also learned that there had been a fire on Jesionowa Street, a few hundred meters from where the woman's body was found. In the house that was on fire, the windows were broken, the smell of burnt material filled the air, and scorched furniture could be seen in the yard.
A policewoman was asked during the conference whether the officers were connecting these cases. However, the spokesperson said that she could neither confirm nor deny this information. She only acknowledged that this angle was being verified.
According to a TVN24 reporter, the couple was in the middle of a divorce. The next hearing was scheduled for Friday. The murdered woman lived with her mother.
