Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Thursday he would visit Paris on Monday to discuss the situation in Ukraine, defence cooperation and energy issues with French President Emmanuel Macron.
"First of all, we will talk about security issues, because France is an important partner ... Strengthening (NATO's) eastern flank will also certainly be a subject of our discussion," Morawiecki said, pointing to issues such as military cooperation and cooperation between defence industries.
"In addition to security we will also talk about energy. We can see that Russia has caused a huge wave of inflation all over the world ... we will talk with the President of France how to alleviate inflationary pressure, especially on the energy market," he added.
Morawiecki also mentioned that not long ago France had used to produce majority of its energy in nuclear plants, whereas today approx. half of those plants needed to be overhauled. As a result - Polish PM argued - prices in France were also very high. "Scandalously high," he stressed, adding that it was only profiting some raw materials producers and traders.
"This state of affairs needs to be changed as it mainly triggers inflation - in France, Germany, United States and of course inflation in Poland. All European leaders are perfectly aware of that," the prime minister said.
Chief of the Polish government also informed he and Macron would discuss military cooperation, including military industries. "I would like to discuss this a lot too, as it's important for us to strenghten our security right here in Europe," he said.
Morawiecki added that Poland was doing exactly that in an expedited tempo, mentioning in that context military purchases his country conducted in the USA, United Kingdom or South Korea.
"We are strenghtening our military potential. We don't want Europe to be defenceless. For it to be militarily strong enough so that no one dares to raise their hand against any of the EU countries," Poland's PM underscored.
